Even though there are numerous search engines available of the internet we all know that Google is the one that counts when it comes to rankings. This means that if you want your website to be successful you need to aim your SEO campaign at Google, but how exactly can you do this if you struggle to understand the complexities of the subject?

1. Create content that isn’t time sensitive

Putting good quality content on your website that won’t go out-of-date in a few weeks or months is an easy way to boost search engine optimisation. By making the content you use useful now and in the future you won’t need to remove it and replace it over and over again…you can simply add to it on a regular basis.

A website with very poor content or very little content is an SEO no-no if you want good search engine rankings so get your typing head on and create some content that people will be glad to read now and in 10 years’ time.

2. Think about your customer’s needs

Put yourself in your customer’s shoes and think about the actual words they may type into the search box in order to find your website. Then check how popular these words are with an SEO keyword tool, such as the free one supplied by Google. One of the quickest and easiest ways to achieve good SEO is with good keyword selection. Then all you need to so is include your SEO keywords in your website content.

3. Do some guest blogging

Google loves links so the more quality websites you can create guest blog posts for the better your SEO campaign will be. Make sure that the guest blogs all link back to your website and that they are relevant to the subject of your website. You should also make sure the content is top quality so that readers want to follow the link you provide.

4. Links, Links and more Links

As the above tip points out Google loves links…but only when the links are genuine and they link to and from other authoritative sites. You run the risk of blacklisting your website and ruining a good SEO campaign by either purchasing links or blogging on unrelated sites and linking back to your site. There are loads of other SEO techniques available so don’t go down this route.

5. Create an informative video

Informational videos with backlinks to your website are another great SEO tool. Businesses can make a short video explaining what they do, who they are etc. while vendors can demonstrate their products if appropriate. If you can, distribute your video over multiple platforms then watch as your Google rank increases.

6. Update your website on a daily basis

If you can add content to your website on a daily or bi-daily basis Google and the other big search engines start to recognise your site as an authority in its niche. By changing your choice of SEO keywords on a regular basis as well you will begin to rank highly for a good selection of keywords and eventually the majority of keywords related to your site’s topic (or your business) will get your website noticed and ranked amongst the leading sites.

If you don’t have time to create new SEO orientated blogs on a daily basis hire a blog writer to do it for you. On-going content creation is one of the easiest SEO techniques to master and one that will improve your Google rank over time.

7. Concentrate on your article titles

A simple SEO tip that many people forget revolves around the wording of their content or article titles. A lot of search engine spiders/bots initially read the first few lines of a webpage to distinguish the topic of the content. If you can include your top-ranking keywords in the title of whatever you’re writing it will help your site’s SEO no end.

8. Avoid Flash-based websites

Flash websites look lovely and stylish and expensive but they don’t sit well with Google or your SEO efforts. It takes a number of sophisticated tricks to make Google notice Flash websites and so it makes more sense to use another platform if you want to improve your rankings.

9. Use article submission sites

Article submission sites are a great SEO tool as they distribute a single article written by you to hundreds of article directories with the aim of getting it published and noticed. The articles you submit can be published for free but any websites that choose to publish it have to include your bio and a link back to your website. Most article submission sites do charge for the service but they can cut months off your SEO campaign.

10. Hire a professional SEO agency

The nine SEO tips mentioned above are quite simple to put into place but they take time, effort and patience. Not everyone has an
abundance of these qualities so it may be worth hiring a professional SEO agency to do the work for you. Of course this will cost you money but if it gets your business website onto page 1 of Google within a few weeks it’s definitely a price worth paying.

This little friend is ready for the Hurricane…

My little buddy is ready for the Hurricane.

On the business front, I recently launched a new website for Will Marlow, LLC, which is where I help businesses and other organizations launch Google AdWords campaigns, conduct SEO, and do multiple types of Public Relations and digital Public Relations, as well as photography that is optimized for social media and PR.

Just thought I’d let everyone here know a little more about what my day job is.

And, for the record, my dog Winston’s job is to be incredibly adorable.

Search engines have a habit of changing the algorithms from time to time in order to improve the results. For this reason the SEO experts always have to come up with new ways of generating traffic on websites. One of the best ways and also the most traditional ones to gain more traffic is the simple article writing, However, we should admit that there are also some other important and efficient ways of generating traffic besides this.

There is one thing that most webmasters and also SEO experts tend to overlook and that is the user generated traffic. Such traffic is very useful in search engine optimization campaigns. The user content is a very solid evidence of the fact that people are interested in the information you provide on your website and also they want to share their opinions.

Your comments are also analyzed by search engines. When you have a lot of them on a page then you can be sure that the search engines will notice and will rank your site accordingly. The bottom line idea is the more the better. It is not important if your readers start arguing with one another as long as they don’t start using fowl language.

Most webmasters have the tendency to characterize the comment and review section as the least of their worries. If they moderate any discussions it is only done to remove all spam comments and nothing more. A simple thing that they could actually do is to use the best comments or reviews and place them on other pages of their website. Such comments have to be relevant for the specific topics and subjects that you are trying to exemplify. Also they should not have any grammar or spelling mistakes. Don’t forget to link to the page that has more traffic and in this way help the website become more noticeable.

Every proper SEO campaign means much more than link building (even if this part is very important). The SEO experts have to constantly find out new ways of improving the traffic on their websites. Also, you should make sure that you have only high quality content on your site, that you choose the right keywords and so on.

On Oct 3, 2009 I made some editing improvements to the photo. Primarily, I reduced the extent of shadows in the area behind the writer-woman. I also made a slight increase to the saturation of the skin tones in her face (and the other woman’s back), as well as the overall "vibrancy" of the non-skin-tone colors in the picture. Not a huge change, but I think it’s a little better this way… of course, I should have done all of this when I first took the photo, but at that point (a year ago), I didn’t know how. Things get better, little by little…

**********************

This is part of an evolving photo-project, which will probably continue throughout the summer of 2008, and perhaps beyond: a random collection of "interesting" people in a broad stretch of the Upper West Side of Manhattan — between 72nd Street and 104th Street, especially along Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue.

I don’t like to intrude on people’s privacy, so I normally use a telephoto lens in order to photograph them while they’re still 50-100 feet away from me; but that means I have to continue focusing my attention on the people and activities half a block away, rather than on what’s right in front of me.

I’ve also learned that, in many cases, the opportunities for an interesting picture are very fleeting — literally a matter of a couple of seconds, before the person(s) in question move on, turn away, or stop doing whatever was interesting. So I’ve learned to keep the camera switched on (which contradicts my traditional urge to conserve battery power), and not worry so much about zooming in for a perfectly-framed picture … after all, once the digital image is uploaded to my computer, it’s pretty trivial to crop out the parts unrelated to the main subject.

For the most part, I’ve deliberately avoided photographing bums, drunks, drunks, and crazy people. There are a few of them around, and they would certainly create some dramatic pictures; but they generally don’t want to be photographed, and I don’t want to feel like I’m taking advantage of them. I’m still looking for opportunities to take some "sympathetic" pictures of such people, which might inspire others to reach out and help them. We’ll see how it goes …

The only other thing I’ve noticed, thus far, is that while there are lots of interesting people to photograph, there are far, far, *far* more people who are *not* so interesting. They’re probably fine people, and they might even be more interesting than the ones I’ve photographed … but there was just nothing memorable about them.

The online space abounds with a great number of websites that contain wonderful content matched with beautiful design. However, due to the absence of a reliable SEO campaign, they don’t get read by their target audience. Perhaps you are an owner of one of these websites. You must understand then that your virtual home must possess strong presence in the search engines and the social networking sites.

If you are keen to observe some strategies, your website will definitely reap helpful rewards for the products and services that you are promoting. It is best though to let an SEO expert handle the search engine optimization side of your website rather than doing it on your own. Following are few of the benefits you can acquire from getting professional help for matters like this.

Increased Visibility

With the right techniques, you can arrive at the first pages of the search result pages of top search engines like Google and Yahoo. Through this your business will experience much greater visibility whenever keyword searches are launched. As we all know, most searchers never click any other pages of the search results but the first one. This goes to show, higher ranking in the search result pages equals higher number of visits to your website.

Quick Response To Search Engine Algorithm Changes

Changes in the search engine algorithms can definitely affect the ranking of your website. Unfortunately a slight change could a sale lost on your part and a sale gained by your competitor. When there are specialists handling your website, these changes would not be a problem to you. You can actually turn these changes into opportunities as you push your way up to the rankings.
Should you need a detailed understanding of this one, you can see our SEO Method 2.0 review.

Maintained High Rankings

As you decide to hire a team of SEO specialists to work on your site, you will notice a great difference between your initial ranking and your current ranking after some techniques have been implemented. The good thing about this is that it can be maintained for your website’s advantage for a long time with the right people working on it.

Cheaper Marketing

The professional SEO services would definitely require fees. But it is proven to be cheaper than doing the traditional way of promoting your brand like buying media spaces in print, on television or over the radio. Through brand awareness, having website visitors and transactions you can easily achieve your marketing objectives the cost-effective way.

Updated Website All The Time

An SEO campaign requires addition of fresh content on the website itself. With this practice your website will always appear relevant. This is a good way to attract second visits and regular readers which could be equivalent to possible sales. Say your business has gained negative publicity due to some reasons; professional SEO can be of help to this. A new set of keywords can be produced. They can push down the search result pages all the keywords pertaining to your negative publicity. And with some activity going on the social networking media for your site, you will be able to project new publicity for your business.

An uncoordinated marketing campaign launch wastes valuable resources. Communicators must integrate across silos to develop strategic multichannel marketing programs. That’s why we wrote Marketing in the Round. Learn more today at marketingintheround.com.

The updates and posts you make on your social pages may link back to your website, but whenever a subscriber wants to access your website form anywhere else on the web, he or she will have to rely on the search engine rankings of your site. It is not always possible to navigate to the social page and then click on the links provided there. Therefore, in all cases, you need to use advanced services in search engine optimization of the website.

Keep your business ahead of market competition by upgrading your SEO management practices from time to time. Essentially, this means that even if you have been using the services of a set of SEO marketers, additional expert help is important to ensure the use of high quality services. A clever way to do this would be to call in an SEO analyst and get him to check through the ongoing SEO campaign of your business. The role of a SEO analyst is of great importance in every search engine optimization campaign. Here, are the three most important services that he will extend in perfecting the SEO management scenario within your company.

Website Reviews: The expert starts out by running a review of the main website of your company. It is important to mention here that every SEO campaign starts with website reviews. The experts check the content and design for performance across search engines before developing the rough plan of the campaign. However, once the campaign is on, you need to use the experience of an analyst in determining the ways in which the search engine performance of the website has improved using the new content. He will suggest further changes, which when incorporated, increases the cost-efficiency of the campaign.

Keyword research: Sometimes within the short span of three months, the keyword trends change massively in the market. Therefore, irrespective of the fact that superior quality content has been created using the old set of keywords, your website performs poorly in SERPs. The analyst undertakes a quick check of the keywords ruling the roost at such times, and provides the SEO management team with these key phrases.

Market Research: Sometimes the target audience that a certain campaign is aimed turns out to be the main reason for the failure of the campaign. Yes, if off-page optimization techniques used in your campaign targets at attracting the wrong section of the market, then all your efforts in SEO management go to waste. SEO analysts opine that whenever there is a lull in the SEO performance of a website, a separate approach to market research must be undertaken.

Why an Evolving SEO Campaign is Best

One of the rare non-Apple laptops seen in an otherwise cool park full of cool people

Late in the afternoon on the last day in March 2009, I walked into Bryant Park, which is located behind the New York Public Library, between 41st and 42nd Street, facing Avenue of the Americas. There were several people reading and basking in the sun, a couple people typing on their laptop computers, and one chess game underway. I spent about half an hour wandering around to see what looked photo-worthy, and then wandered off to get some dinner…

This woman was typing away on a laptop computer … alas, it was not an Apple Powerbook. But maybe she doesn’t know any better. Just think: if she had been typing on a Mac, her photo probably would have been published a thousand times by now!

Every site owner knows that an SEO campaign is what is needed to rank high in search engine indexes. It’s important to keep in mind though that search engine optimization is not a field that stays as it is with same techniques that you can always use. SEO is an ever changing field.

In the past, the task of optimizing web pages used to be fairly easy. Webmasters who wanted to monetize and earn from sites could easily do so. They could set up hundreds of pages with the help of auto generated or rehashed content that repeatedly carried popular keywords. This was the age of optimization through keyword stuffing and duplicate content.

The rationale behind keyword stuffing was that search engines ranked pages with these keywords high. Search engines work with a slightly different set of rules now. Since many website owners misused content and keywords engines began castigating these erring sites. In short, sites with too many keywords and with unoriginal content quickly saw the death of their high ranking dreams. Because engines have grown and changed how they index and rank sites, SEO specialists also have to change with them. The consequences of not changing with the times are obvious.

Now, the most important part of optimization is good, high quality and useful content. You are more likely to grab and retain the attention of both search engines and real readers if you give them the kind of information that they need and want. This is even if you only own a mini site. Every SEO campaign should therefore begin with finding a website theme or topic that you are familiar with and passionate about. When you know what you excel in, providing authoritative content will become fairly easy and straightforward.

The use of keywords is still important in optimization. Just like in the old days, your site content should still carry the keywords that people use in search engines so search engine robots can find you. Be mindful and cautious with keyword use and placement though. Never stuff your pages with too many keywords to the extent that you dilute the value of the information that you are providing.

Good keyword usage is not the only thing you need to keep in mind. An SEO campaign should also give emphasis on proper link building. Because website ranking is mostly determined by site popularity, link building is the one strategy that you need to perfect to gain ground on building a good reputation. The more high quality sites link to your site, the more your site will seem popular to engine robots.

There are several link building choices available to you. Before you use any one technique though, remind yourself to look only for sites with good reputations and rankings too. Sites that are popular in themselves provide more valuable external links than those that aren’t. Build twice as many links to your homepage as other pages on your site.

A major SEO campaign is definitely not kids’ play. With the changes that engines undergo every day, you would do well to just keep up.

Does your SEO campaign need a full website audit?

Do you know who built your company site? Are you still in contact with the person or company who created your website? Do you understand the methodology that originally went into creating the site? Can you tell that I am leading you to read more about the importance of thinking about these questions? I’m sneaky.

Understanding how your site is put together is an important step in optimizing it for search engine visibility. But, not everyone knows their own website top to bottom, or from to as is the case. That’s where a site audit, and a socially awkward Internet geek such as myself, can help.

There is no magic bullet. When it comes to SEO campaign, it used to be you could do a lot of things with hidden text and keyword stuffing and just scraping results. There was the whole traffic equalizer phrase where you just scraped the search engine results and then fed them back to themselves and they ranked really well. But there is no magic bullet now when it comes to SEO.

SEO is hard work, it takes time. Building a business that adds value to people’s lives is hard work, it takes time. Life itself is hard work. You just need to understand, look if you’re going to go down the SEO path or really adding value to anything, if it’s super easy and you’re looking for that holy grail quick fix, you’re probably going to end up being quite disappointed with the way they do SEO advertising.

That’s why I’ve shifted away from, oh, I like to dabble with the grey hat things still. White hat is very squeaky clean, black hat is more about fooling and tricking the search engines and those things that they don’t like obviously and grey hat is in the middle.

Try and focus more on the white hat, that is how you build long term business. One thing that I’m finding now we’re going through the process of selling Planet 13 the Greensborough store. I think the online for us presents such a fantastic opportunity. The point at which you will make the most money is the point at which you sell a business using an effective SEO campaign today.

You’ll pay for your bills and your lifestyle through running your business but where you’ll cash out and make the big money is the point at which you sell a business. That’s not really SEO but that is a key insight I’ve discovered.

When undertaking an SEO campaign the first thing you want to do is make sure that you know thyself. You want to make sure that you’ve installed your Google Analytics, you know how many pages you’ve got on the site, you know how many are indexed. You want to make sure how many back links you’ve got, you want to have a good extensive keyword list. Keep building that keyword list, try and think about how deep those keywords can go.

By that I’m talking about, Planet 13 we’ve got the different categories and then beneath the categories how deep can you go on those keywords. We can keep adding, every time a new band comes out, we’ve got that new band plus all of the sub set keywords underneath which is all the associated merchandise to that particular band. Have a good clear understanding of how deep you can go on those keywords.
Also you want to make sure you analyze your competition as well before you start your SEO campaign. You should know your competition just as well as you know yourself.

We do competition analysis to see what our opposition are up to as well. You should know your site links, back links, all those sorts of things; you should also know about your competition using SEO campaign today.
